Re: London
Ah, what a day. I am bloody knackered! Walking around London all day really does take it out of you! I’m on my train back now, and unfortunately I’m writing said post from my mobile, and not from a shiny new Macbook. Next month maybe
I arrived in Euston at 1220 and met Mr Jon Butler at the Body Shop in the station. First stop, we jumped on the tube to Oxford Circus (I think) and walked round to “Gaylord Restaurant“, a real Indian restaurant! Upon reading the menu I discovered that I was indeed dining in the only Gaylord in the UK (there’s something I never thought I’d say!). Gaylords can also be found in New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Bankok and other places off to the East that I’ll never get around to visiting.. Somewhat exclusive! I noticed this because the menu required real attention paying to it. It wasn’t your standard Indian menu; Korma, Massala, Madrass, etc. I can’t even tell you what I had.. I couldn’t even tell the Waiter, I had to point.. All part of being a tourist though! Hah. The decor, service, and food were all infallable. The bill came to fifty quid for the two of us, but was well worth it!
Next we walked around the corner to Selfridges so that Jon could buy some fluff.. He opted for strawberry! If you’ve ever been to the Selfridges in the Trafford Centre, and not the London one then you are in for a surprise! It is absolutely massive, and six floors! After Selfridges we headed to the highlight of the day, the Regent Street Apple Store.. Again, huge. 3-4 times the size of the Trafford Centre store! Unfortunately very crowded and, as I’ve already covered. I didn’t leave with nearly enough Macbooks! Atleast when I do get one I’ll save 10% (thanks Louise!) hehe.. Students!
After the Apple Store we headed to our final planned destination, over the road to Hamleys! I couldn’t resist, there were seven floors of toys.. My first purchase was imminent, I could feel it! We started at the top, and worked our way down.. It was the basement that stung me - the electronics and gadgets level. I left Hamleys with “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix” for my Nintendo Wii. By this time it was 4 o’clock, so we decided to head to South Bank.. Back to the tube!
We got the tube to Waterloo and walked across to the Waterloo New Millenium Pier.. It’s not so much a pier as where the London Eye is.. We didn’t take a ride, I wasn’t that excited about the prospect of queueing for an hour so I can stand for fourty minutes.. I don’t think there are many views worth that amount of ball-ache! There was also a Star Wars Convention in the County Hall (right by the London Eye). We didn’t go in, but I did get my taken with a Storm Trooper! Excellent.
By this time, Jon and I were feeling very tired, so decided we’d have a sit down near the miscellaneous grass covered in Tourists sunning themselves near the London Eye. I was sat next to a thirteen year old ‘local’ who promptly asked me for a lighter (and replied with ‘cheers bra’ - made my day!). The conversation this kid was having was unbelievable. Talking about how unfit all the woman were, but how fit everyone looks when you’re pissed, and then discussing how drunk you’d need to be on a case-by-case basis as the wo-men passed by! Excellent conversation for a 13 year old I thought.
After sufficient sitting, we decided to go for a quick drink in a nearby Slug and Lettuce, before heading to Waterloo station and parting our ways. I jumped on a tube to Euston, bought some headphones and got on my train.. Which pretty much brings us to now! Good day.. Tiring Day. More photos of my day in London can be found in my gallery.
