Just a quick follow-up post to ethnic majorities, I was out in the corridoor then and I could hear music from that flat across the corridoor. That flat in question is populated by 6 Asian chaps, I don’t particularly like them. Not because they’re Asian, but because they’re arse-holes. The music is question, well this is where it really takes the piss. Some form of middle-east-esque music, at some form of high volume!

I feel the need, again, to point out that I am not being racist. I don’t care what colour your skin is, what ethnicity your background has, if you play shit paki music at a volume I can hear… I will boom my tunes, I don’t think we need to be reminded who can make more noise. :P

As I was hiking up London Road, it suddenly occured to me how very hungry I was. I came to the cross-roads and a crucial decison had to be made.. I went straight on, and let my stomach guide the way. Admittedly, the extra distance was not far. However, it is not the distance that concerned me, or my legs.

At the point that I choose to go straight on, the steepness of the hill increases from something you can handle pretty much without thinking, to somthing that requires a little more effort. And by that, I mean it becomes one of those hills where you have to noticeably put more effort into your walking. Real effort!

The walk seemed to take forever, but my mind was occupied, mentally building my tasty subway snack! I thought I had it all planned out, atleast, I knew exactly what I wanted!

I get to the door and try to push it open with no success, immediately I realise my error and pull the door open, hoping nobody noticed. Good Start.
I arrive at the counter and the lad approaces me, I place my order as accurately as I can think possible (I even specified bread type!), hoping that no follow-up questions will be asked. I couldn’t have been more wrong! Would you like that toasted? Warmed? Toasted and warmed? Warmed then toasted? Would you like whipped cream on that? Would you li… STOP! I have had enough! I just want a fooking buttie!

Admittedly, being the experienced subway eater that I am, I made it through the ordeal and was rewarded with a tasty snack. I do, however, feel for any subway n00bs. Unexperienced folk entering the realm of subway for the first time, unexpectedly hit with a barrage of questions! It is enough to being a grown man to tears. To all of whom I speak, do not let this put you off! You can achieve your goal! And it is worth it! Just study the menu ;-)

Shit- I forgot to buy milk

I have been asked, what my tasty subway order was, and I must admit, it was a little short sighted of me not to tell you.. How better to help the subway beginners of the world than to share my own experience? Today, I went super crazy experimental and got two 6 inchers, as opposed to the standard footlong. My regular subway, which I would recommend to anyone and everyone goes as follows (try to order it like this, and they don’t have to ask ANY questions!):

  • Footlong Hearty Italian with chicken and double cheese, heated in the microwave with the cheese on top
  • A little lettuce, not too much (I feel the need to over-state this, overwise your subway gets overwhelmed with greenery!).. cucumbers and some green peppers
  • Loads of mayonnaise, and a little of the Ranch Dressing, which is basically mayonnaise & sweet chilli!

And there you have it, the _best_ subway you’ll ever have. After today, however, I can also recommend the following, if.. for some reason, the chicken supreme doesn’t tickle your fancy!

  • Footlong Hearty Italian with tuna and double cheese, toasted
  • Cucumbers and green peppers only
  • Additional mayonnaise, as it gets a little dry being toasted, imo

And there you have it.. Pretty much all I have to offer as far as Subway Meal Advice goes.. I enjoy the chicken one so much that I’ve never felt the need to change! Hope you enjoy it too!!

Right, as promised, an update in regards to my TV Card/PC. Got Windows XP Media Center Edition installed on my PC now, and it supports my tv card! Wicked news! (I’m currently watching today’s Friends from earlier :D). So, had to buy a signal booster because the signal in this building is shite. Still can’t pick up E4, but all other channels are watchable and I can get E4+1 so I can live with it, just means I can’t watch Friends and The Simpsons. Also, turns out my Surge Protector’s AV Protection was distorting the signal enough for it to matter, wether it’ll matter less with a decent signal, I don’t know! Aside that, I’m well happy with c-plusplus, and she boots up wicked fast now! Lovely compared to waiting for Windows Server 2003 to prepare it’s network connections! I think that’s everything you need to know. Bye

Been meaning to make this post for a few hours, but I’ve been busy fiddling with my TV Card/Signal Booster, but I’ll tell you about that later… Anyway, The story goes like this:

22:48 “I’d best get to the shop before it closes”. Wait, let me go back further.. Only earlier today I was talking to mouse (please note I was discussing this matter, not complaining about it! I feel the need to, at this point, bring to your attention to the fact that I am not a racist, or trying/meaning to offend anyone in this post! It is merely an observation.) the number of “ethnic minorities” that are about, and that “minorities” may not be a suitable term anymore… As I was saying, I was on my way to the shop…

As soon as I leave my building, I pass two black folk on the street, I go into the shop, and pass 3 white, scouse smackheads, inside the shop, I’m served by a white guy. Also working in the shop are two other white people. As I leave the shop, 8 muslim-types were leaving a building near the shop, and then I saw another 4 outside my building.

I know this is only a small snippit of data, but all stats have to be based on sample data, so.. Here we go:
I saw a total of 22 people on my trip to the shop, which is literally less than a 500m. Round trip. Of those 22, 6 were white, and the other 16 would be classed as “ethnic minorities”. That’s 72.7% minorities! “But it’s not fair to group all ethnic minorities together” you might call, and that is very correct, so let’s break it down further. Of the 16 “minorities” I saw, 14 were Muslim, 2 were Black/Jamaican, so the final stats would be as follows:

  • Whites: 6 (27.2%)
  • Blacks: 2 (9.1%)
  • Muslims: 14 (63.7%)

Well, I’d say the results are conclusive. “Minority” is no longer an appropriate term for Muslims, seems as they would take 63.7% of people-I-see, they are something of The Majority. I guess there is nothing else to say but congradulations to all my fellow-brits! We are now Native Minorities. Let the hard times begin!

The Great PC-Fix of 24/04

Filed under: Life, Technology — Will Boyce on April 24th, 2006 @ 22:39

So, I wake up this morning.. At the godly hour of 0930! First thing I do? Check the City Link website.. Damnit! Still no delivery! I sit about for a while, and read over the WordPress Plugin API, and consider turning my sidebar addition into a plugin when my phone rings!… It’s Carl, wanting to know if the stuff has arrived yet. I pass on the bad news, and hang up the phone. I browse over the APIs for a while, then notice the time is 1157. “Best check now before it closes at lunch [in 3 minutes]” I thought, and hopefully hit F5……..

Hazar! These goods have been successfully delivered. I hurridly informed Carl of the excellent news and ran downstairs! I was greeted with a “You here for these big boxes are you? Come and get them cos they’re too heavy”.. Didn’t bother me, cos my pc was about to be fixed! I ran upstairs with the box and hastily ripped off the tape like a child on christmas day.

The Order

Behold! The order in all it’s glory! 3x Samsung 250gig SATA, Tagan 530W EasyCon PSU, 1.5GB DDR400 Crucial RAM, XFX GeForce 6200 256MB, Leadtek Winfast DVT1000-T DVB-T/HDTV PCI Card, 2x Vantec Vortex HD Coolers, Belkin Surge Protector with AV, Vantec SATA PCI Controller, Zalman CNPS7000B-Cu CPU Cooler, 2x Rounded Black IDE Cable, Akasa SATA Data Cable, 2x Vantec 80mm Stealth Fans, Akasa Thermal Compound, and some funky Helmet Themed Thumbscrews!

So, I set about work, everything went pretty much OK, except the Vantec Vortex HD Coolers, which according to the Box, and OcUK are compatable with SATA, SCSI and IDE, have an IDE Passthrough power cable jobby, but fear not, the Tagan came to the rescue with more power cables than… Well, something with a lot of power cables…

The Coolers.

Just a little data migration, to get rid of the dreaded Maxtor Hard Drive, and my baby will be back…. Kicking ass and cruching numbers! Now… Where is that side panel?!
